Bernadette L. Peters was born Bernadette. Lazzara in Ozone Park Queens New York on 28 February 1948 is a songwriter/singer and a writer of children's books. Through an extensive career spanning five decades she has starred in musical theatre films and on television, as well as performing as a solo artist and recording. She's received seven Tony Awards nominations, two of which she was awarded as well as the other eight Drama Desk Awards. Grammy Awards have been won through four Broadway cast recordings in which Peters has appeared. Peters was first on stage when she was a child, and then at the age of a teenager in 1960s. The 1970s were when she began acting in films as well as on television. For her early stage work as well as for her TV performances, which included the Carol Burnett Show The Muppet Show as well as Annie.
